Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • 500g beef sirloin or tenderloin thinly sliced (for a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (adds umami depth)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (for a touch of sweetness and richness)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (the star ingredient for that signature bold flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (helps tenderize the beef and thicken the sauce)
  • 1 small onion sliced (for sweetness and aroma)
  • 3 cloves garlic minced (adds a fragrant, garlicky kick)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water (enhances the sauce and keeps the dish juicy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar (balances the savory flavors)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for richness and a smooth finish)
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil (for stir-frying)

Optional Add-ins for Extra Flavor & Texture:

  • 1/2 cup bell peppers sliced (adds color and a subtle sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (deepens the umami flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil (for a nutty aroma and added depth)

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Beef

  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper.
  • Add the thinly sliced beef and mix well, ensuring every piece is coated.
  • Let it sit for at least 15–30 minutes to absorb the flavors. (For best results, marinate for up to an hour.)

Step 2: Sear the Beef

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated beef in batches, ensuring you don’t overcrowd the pan.
  • Sear for 1–2 minutes per side, just until the edges brown. (No need to cook through at this stage!)
  • Transfer the beef to a plate and set it aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Peppery Sauce

  • In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the garlic and onions until soft and fragrant.
  • Pour in the beef broth (or water), sugar, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce (if using).
  • Stir and let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly reduced.
  • Add the seared beef back into the pan, tossing everything together.

Step 4: Finish with Butter & Pepper

  • Reduce the heat and stir in butter for a rich, glossy finish.
  • Add more freshly ground black pepper for that bold, peppery kick.
  • If using, toss in bell peppers for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Simmer for another 2 minutes, then turn off the heat.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!

  • Transfer your Jollibee-style Beef Pepper Steak to a serving dish.
  • Pair it with steamed rice or garlic fried rice for the ultimate meal.
  • Garnish with extra black pepper or a sprinkle of chopped green onions.
